In this blog series, we celebrate Senzime's 25-year anniversary by reflecting on our past, present, and future.
Our Chief Operating Officer shares her insights on how we are leading the way with sustainable operations.
At Senzime, we are dedicated to pioneering sustainable practices within our industry. Our journey toward sustainability began in 2020 when we made the strategic decision to transfer our manufacturing operations from the UK to our in-house facility in Uppsala. This move was more than just a change in location; it marked a significant step towards reducing our environmental impact and improving our operational efficiency.
The transition to our Uppsala facility was completed in November 2021, following a thorough inspection and approval from our notified body. This shift allowed us to screen the market for new suppliers, prioritizing those closer to our manufacturing site. By doing so, we not only streamlined our supply chain but also minimized the environmental impact associated with transportation.
At the same as relocating our manufacturing, we recognized the opportunity to reduce the size of our product packaging. Both the Tetragraph and TetraSens boxes underwent a design overhaul in 2021/2022. These updates were aimed at minimizing material use and reducing waste, aligning with our commitment to sustainable practices. Additionally, we continually strive to limit transportation between our warehouses, further cutting down on our carbon footprint.
Our move to a new facility for our headquarters in Uppsala, Sweden, in June this year represents another milestone in our sustainability journey. We are proud to have a green lease agreement with our landlord, which underscores our shared commitment to environmentally sustainable operations. This lease is more than just a document; it's a pledge to work together towards reducing our climate impact and optimizing resource use.
Key Aspects of Our Green Lease Include:
-
Optimizing Heating, Cooling, and Ventilation: We are committed to adjusting these systems based on actual usage to conserve energy.
- Promoting Reuse, Recycling, and Sharing: We continually seek solutions to enhance resource efficiency within our operations.
- Using Environmentally Friendly Materials: Our building and interior design choices prioritize non-hazardous and eco-friendly materials.
- Renewable Electricity: We ensure that all electricity used in our premises is renewable and labeled as origin-certified.
- Avoiding Fossil Fuels: We are dedicated to using only renewable or climate-neutral energy sources for both heating and cooling, avoiding fossil fuels entirely.
At Senzime, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. By making strategic changes to our operations and fostering partnerships that prioritize environmental responsibility, we are leading the way in creating a more sustainable future. Our commitment to these principles is unwavering, and we are excited about the positive impact these initiatives will continue to have on our business and the environment.
Join us as we lead change with efficient, sustainable operations.
